Frequently asked questions
Margin or markup, what is the difference?
Margin is based on the selling price: buying at 10 and selling at 20 excl. tax is a 50% margin. Markup is based on cost: that is × 2. Same product, two different numbers.
Is VAT taken into account?
Yes. Margin is always computed on the price excluding tax, and the suggested price is returned including tax so you can put it on the shelf.
What margin should retail aim for?
It depends on your sector: often 50 to 60% in fashion, lower in food. Compare against your own references rather than a general average.
Can I apply one markup to my whole catalog?
Yes, and it is the fastest route. Refect applies a multiplier to every line of an invoice while still letting you adjust product by product.
